Position Overview

The ARG In-Prison Case Manager plays a critical role in preparing incarcerated Veterans for successful reentry into the community. This position is responsible for connecting directly with incarcerated Veterans to inform them about the program, guide them through the application process, and provide pre-release preparation. The Case Manager will primarily work in correctional institutions and travel frequently throughout California. When not traveling or conducting in-prison services, the Case Manager will provide support to the on-site ARG Case Manager at VTC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with incarcerated Veterans to introduce the ARG reentry program, provide application guidance, and deliver pre-release preparation.
  • Travel regularly to prisons across California to facilitate outreach, application support, and reentry planning.
  • Collaborate with CDCR staff, Veteran group representatives, and outside organizations that serve incarcerated populations to coordinate services and enhance program visibility.
  • Collaborate with ARG Peer Support Staff to ensure a coordinated approach in supporting Veterans during reentry.
  • Conduct assessments and gather documentation to ensure Veterans are prepared for program eligibility and intake upon release.
  • Perform warm hand-off pick-ups upon release, transporting Veterans to their assigned Parole Office and then to VTC for program intake.
  • Maintain accurate records and data tracking in accordance with ARG program guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Provide support to the on-site ARG Case Manager when not traveling or engaged in in-prison services.
  • Ensure compliance with all CDCR entry and clearance requirements while maintaining professional relationships with correctional staff and the incarcerated population.
  • Assist in developing and updating outreach materials for incarcerated Veterans to promote program awareness.
  • Facilitate referrals to community resources that support housing, employment, and wellness for Veterans upon release.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, trainings, and supervision to ensure program consistency and compliance.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from an accredited institution, plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with the criminal justice population;
    OR
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of four (4) years of experience working in a similar position with the criminal justice population.

Requirements

  • Valid California Drivers License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass all CDCR clearance and background requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with incarcerated or formerly incarcerated populations, preferably Veterans.
  • Ability to work independently, manage travel schedules, and adapt to correctional environments.
