Welder Apprentice is responsible for performing repair and maintenance on containers and/or the vehicle fleet. This position is an entry-level position to our welding department.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Perform sanding, grinding, cutting, welding and other fabrication or repair work on company containers, compactors, and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Weld steel using Mig and Arc welding equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA standards
  • Complete required paperwork utilizing computer system
  • Install lids and wheels on containers
  • Perform paint repairs as needed
  • Assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed
  • Communicate in a manner that promotes good relationships with internal/external customers, clients, co-workers, and management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Ability to properly learn welding, torching, and cutting using a plasma cutter
  • Ability to utilize standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment
  • Ability to be trained to operate a forklift safely
  • Basic computer skills

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

  • Welding, torching and grinding skills preferred

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

  • Continuously lifting/carrying a max of 35 lbs
  • Frequently lifting/carrying a max of 50 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying a max of 75 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying a max of 100 lbs
  • Continuously pushing/pulling a max of 20 lbs
  • Frequently pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
  • Rarely pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Frequently working outside in wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in changing temperatures
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Continuously stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Continuously climbing and/or balancing
  • Continuously sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
