Location: Detroit, MI 48202
Job Duration: 13-Week Contract
Shift: Evening Shift
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Guaranteed Hours: Dependent on facility requirements

Job Summary:

The Pathologists Assistant provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a qualified Pathologist. This role includes assisting with surgical specimen examinations and human post-mortem examinations as part of a multidisciplinary pathology team.

Essential Functions:

\t
• Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of surgical specimens
\t
• Select and submit tissue sections for frozen and permanent sections
\t
• Accession specimens and ensure proper identification per surgical pathology policies
\t
• Prepare specimen containers and tissue cassettes
\t
• Assist with resident training, credentialing, and competency assessment
\t
• Perform gross photography and maintain specimen files
\t
• Support tumor procurement for biorepository and complete required documentation
\t
• Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities
\t
• Maintain instruments, refrigerators, and frozen section room inventory
\t
• Manage inventory and order lab supplies
\t
• Select tissues and extremities for disposal after report finalization
\t
• Perform autopsies, including examination, dissection, tissue submission, and documentation
\t
• Perform additional related duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience

• Strong customer service skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Willingness to learn and instruct others

Required Education:

\t
• Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited college or university

Certifications & Licensure (Required):

\t
• Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists Assistant program OR
\t
• PA (ASCP) certification OR prior certification by the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA)

Preferred Certification:

\t
• PA (ASCP)

Interview Process:
