Position Title: System Administrator Location: Orlando, FL, Chandler, AZ and Arlington, VA, Remote Nationwide Travel: 25% Position Summary: The System Administrator is responsible for providing comprehensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support for primary and secondary core locations. This role involves managing Motorola ASTRO 25 Core systems, ensuring seamless system operations, and maintaining secure communications infrastructure. The System Administrator will coordinate with program staff to manage live connectivity between core sites, ensuring redundancy and failover readiness, while also supporting cryptographic key management functions. Responsibilities Provide full-scope O&M support for primary core and secondary core locations, working with a dedicated team of IT Systems Engineers. Manage Motorola ASTRO 25 Core systems, including firmware and software updates, configuration file deployments, and data entry. Coordinate with program staff to manage alternate live connectivity between core sites, ensuring seamless redundancy and failover readiness. Perform operating responsibilities as the primary live core or in standby mode. Support cryptographic key management functions, ensuring compliance with FIPS 140-2, OTAR/OTAP protocols, and encryption handling procedures. Maintain proficiency in Motorola Core software platforms and access authorized Motorola factory tools for implementing OEM updates, security patches, and configuration packages. Perform regular system monitoring, verify the integrity and availability of hardware, software, and system resources. Apply operating system updates, security patches, and firmware upgrades to ensure the health and compliance of the system. Maintain configuration and management of core P25 system components, such as zone controllers, log servers, key management facilities (KMF), and network management systems. Support and manage user access, credentials, and permissions for radio system applications and subscriber device management tools. Document system configuration, maintenance procedures, change logs, and operational standards for future reference and audits. Collaborate with RF engineers, network engineers, and field technicians to ensure the holistic performance and reliability of the P25 environment. Provide technical support for incident response, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting system outages or degradation. Stay updated on future Motorola software releases and core upgrade paths to ensure alignment with the organization’s modernization objectives. Qualifications Minimum of two years’ experience managing Motorola ASTRO 25 Core systems. Formal OEM training certifications in Motorola systems. Proficiency in Motorola Core software platforms and factory tools. Strong understanding of FIPS 140-2, OTAR/OTAP protocols, and encryption handling procedures. Experience in managing live connectivity and ensuring redundancy and failover readiness. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance in accordance with agency requirements. Preferred Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Ability to adapt to changing environments and operational needs. Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $130,000.00 to $140,000.00 annually. Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ.
