Lake Mead Christian Ministries (LMCM) Minister - Landscaper/Maintenance Technician

Job Type: Full Time

Department: Building & Grounds (Campus Services)

Reports to: Head of Building & Grounds

Compensation: $33,280.00-$38,340.00

Job Summary: The Landscaper/Maintenance Technician will report to the Head of Building & Grounds and assist with the success of the department. They will be primarily responsible for performing routine preventative and corrective building maintenance tasks following OSHA guidelines. This position will also periodically support the ministry team with event setup and teardown assistance. This is a full-time, year-round position within a dynamic ministry organization. Incumbents in this position should also be capable of performing all the essential duties, however, they may specialize in a portion listed below based on the needs of the school sites, other facilities, and projects.

Essential Job Functions:

• Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs
• Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not limit to replacement or repair of fixtures, (wall switches, outlets, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools
• Performs minor plumbing maintenance (replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
• Performs painting, carpentry and/or masonry work (preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer or roller to apply paints, stains and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
• Determines need for parts or supplies and submits a list of these items to the Department Head for approval and purchase
• Must be able to occasionally work flexible hours, weekends and special events, as needed
• Setup for events, (tables, chairs, pipe & drape, staging, etc) teardown and cleanup of special events under the direction of the Department Head
• Serves as a role model to students. Has integrity and exhibits personality skills that relate well with students, parents, teachers, and co-workers
• Safely lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily operations
• Trims shrubs, hedges, and trees. Hoes weeds and rakes lawns. Operates and cleans power walking and riding lawn mowers, power blowers, and other motorized equipment requiring similar skill
• Performs landscaping and sports/play field projects. Constructs and contours raised beds, gardens, and drainage areas
• Plants and cultivates trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs. Applies fertilizer as needed. Spades and otherwise prepares grounds for planting
• Removes weeds, blows, rakes, and removes trash and debris from walkways, culverts, stairways, roadways, planters, and parking areas. Maintains in-ground drains and culverts
• Cleans fields, seating areas, and facilities. Performs general grounds clean-up including picking up paper and trash on grounds areas. Performs maintenance and cleaning duties of play/sport facilities
• Assists with maintenance, repair, replacement, and upgrading of irrigation components such as, but not limited to, sprinkler heads and lines. Digs trenches, unloads and relocates materials, and cleans tools and equipment
• Perform maintenance tasks when needed, including painting, drywall repair, plumbing, minor electrical, HVAC upkeep, building upkeep, and cleaning sidewalks and terrace areas
• Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
• Other duties as supervisor deems necessary

Working Conditions: Work is performed mostly outdoors where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and working with machinery.

Qualifications: The Landscape/Maintenance Technician is qualified in grounds maintenance. To be accepted, an incumbent will have two years as a groundskeeper or grounds specialist and demonstrate competency in maintaining a complete site, including landscaping, beautification, litter control, and sports field maintenance.

Required Physical Abilities:

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Walk up to 400 yards uninterrupted
• Manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to heavy weights of up to 50 pounds regularly
• Ability to push, pull, and guide materials over 75 pounds
• Ability to climb (e.g. ladders), stoop, kneel, and crouch regularly
• Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination, hand and finger dexterity including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to operate common grounds equipment and read instructions and safety information
• Auditory ability to hear machinery sounds and alarms
• Near and far visual acuity to read printed materials and observe ground objects
• Speaking ability to carry on ordinary conversations
• Ability to work in extreme temperature conditions
