We are seeking Japanese Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Japanese is a priority East Asian language often required for immigration, asylum, and naturalization interviews.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Japanese English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in immigration, legal, and administrative settings.
  • Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge calls.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, community, medical, or government preferred).
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
